#Showbiz: Che Ta relieved over GST abolishment

KUALA LUMPUR: As an a celebrity-turned-entrepreneur, artiste Rozita Che Wan welcomes the new government’s effort of doing away with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which came into effect yesterday.

“I’m so relieved to hear this. I’m sure other business owners share the same sentiment,” said the 45-year-old actress, also known as Che Ta, when met at a buka puasa event organised by Indigital Sdn Bhd and LOL Entertainment at Hotel Royal, Kuala Lumpur recently.

She added that although GST was not an actual burden imposed on business owners, but rather on the end users, it somehow did have an impact on sales volume as it was an additional cost to buyers.

Che Ta also applauded the government for initiating Tabung Harapan Malaysia, a crowdfunding initiative to help ease the country’s whopping debt.

She said that she would encourage her family members to contribute to the fund as a show of support to the government in getting the country’s economy back on track.

“Of course, no one should be forced to donate. But then again, isn’t sharing is caring?” she said.
