#Showbiz: After 4-day screening, Paskal bags RM7.5mil

KUALA LUMPUR: Action adventure Paskal’s popularity has grown stronger, raking in RM7.5 million after only four days in the cinema.

Actor Nam Ron, who plays tough and no-nonsense navy commander in the film based on real events, revealed in an Instagram post today that its box office collection had shot up from RM2 million last Thursday.

“May this momentum keep going for all Malaysian films of quality. Congratulations to the producer, director, cast and crew of Paskal,” he wrote in the caption.

Fans and followers sent congratulatory messages to the cast and crew. Among them was Khaleed who said: “Fantastic film. I enjoyed every bit of it.”

“Congratulations guys. A great film, inspiring and exciting,” said Zalikha.

“Best story. Just caught it with my family last night,” said Yusnita.

Paskal, directed by Adrian Teh, took RM2 on its opening night.

The RM10 million joint production of Asian Tropical Films, Golden Screen Cinemas, Multimedia Entertainment, Granatum Ventures and Astro Shaw depicts the story of the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Pasukan Khas Laut (Navy Special Warfare Force) or Paskal, which was formed on Oct 1, 1982.

It focuses on the force’s anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden and the Sulu Sea, as well as its peacekeeping missions in Angola, and is based on the experiences of its commander, First Admiral Anuar Alias.

Starring Hairul Azreen, Ammar Alfian, Henley Hii, Taufiq Hanafi, Gambit Saifullah, Hafizul Kamal, Theeban G, Nam Ron and Datuk Eizlan among others, it portrays the success of the elite force on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Angola in 1998, and the mission to recapture the merchant ship MT Bunga Laurel from Somalian pirates in the Gulf of Aden in 2011.

Paskal is set to open in Singapore and Brunei next week and will be screened in China and Turkey next month.
