KUALA LUMPUR: Popular actress Datin Seri Umie Aida opines that young singer Wany Hasrita has some big shoes to fill since winning the Most Popular Artiste at the recent 31st Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH 31).
In an Insta Story posting yesterday, the Dukun star wrote: “Layak atau tak layak, dia sudah menang, atas usaha peminat atau sebaliknya pun tak penting untuk tahu. Crown bintang paling popular sudah jatuh pada dia. Sekarang tugas dia untuk buktikan crown itu memang wajar miliknya... berat tu dik, buktikan okay. Congratulations!" (Whether she is deserving or not, she has won the title. Whether it is through her fans’ efforts or otherwise, it is not important. The fact remains that she has won the coveted title. Her responsibility now is to prove that she deserves the crown, that’s a huge task, so show them. Congratulations!)
When the 25-year-old Wany was announced the winner of Most Popular Artiste, some questioned whether the artiste whose singing career began two years ago is deserving of such title.
Meanwhile, the Menahan Rindu singer has denied any attempt at “buying” votes to secure the Most Popular Artiste award.
She said that she had witnessed how hardworking her fans had been, even to the extent of losing their sleep, just so that they could vote for their idol at every hour.
Wany who also took home the Popular Female Singer trophy, received 2,052,997 votes, the highest number of votes registered at ABPBH 31.
