#Showbiz: 'He wanted us to have a duet', says Saleem's son

KUALA LUMPUR: New singer Syafiq Farhain has revealed that his late father, rocker Saleem of Iklim fame, had once expressed his intention to have a father-son duet with him.

“When I heard from a family friend that my father actually wanted to have a duet with me, that really moved me,” he said in a recent news report.

“It never occurred to me that he would want to perform onstage or even recording a song together. Saleem has wanted to see me as a serious singer first,” said the 24-year-old artiste who is also a real-life firefighter.

Since the duet will never be realised given the present circumstances, he however plans to record Saleem’s lesser-known songs in an album as a tribute to his father and as a memento for his father’s loyal fans.

“Growing up, there were many songs from Iklim which I like. If possible, I want to record them all,” said Syafiq who is also planning to put out a new single dedicated to his father.

Saleem, whose full name was AM Salim Abdul Majeed, passed away on Oct 14 at the age of 57 due to complications sustained from a motorcycle accident.

Meanwhile, Syafiq is currently busy on the set of action-comedy Hero, which tells the story of a group of firefighters.

Directed by Azizi Chunk Adnan, the film which is set for a 2019 release also marks Syafiq’s acting debut.

Also in the cast are Hisyam Hamid, Mark Adam, Bell Ngasri, Elisha Sandha, Tash Yong and Datuk Jalaluddin Hassan.
