#Showbiz: Wany Hasrita gifts mummy dearest her ABPBH31 prize car

KUALA LUMPUR: Being crowned Most Popular Artiste at the recent ABPBH31 was certainly a bittersweet moment for singer Wany Hasrita, who later had to face an onslaught of criticism from some who had questioned her win as deserving.

It was hard for her when dealing with criticism, but thankfully her spirit isn’t broken thanks to a strong support system comprising her loved ones, especially her mother.

The 25-year-old artiste who is extremely close to her mother Norita Jaafar, 47, said having her mother’s support all the way was what brought her the success in the music scene.

And for this, Wany has decided to gift the Citroen C4 Picasso car that she won at ABPBH 31, to her beloved mum.

“I believe in the power of a mother’s prayers and blessings. I’m so grateful to have her supporting my craft from Day One,” she said at the 31st Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian prize presentation ceremony at the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd in Bangsar here today.

Wany said that if it was not for her mother, she would not be where she is today.

“It’s always been my intention to provide her well, and the car is just the beginning. I plan to build a house for her one day as well,” she said.

Meanwhile, Norita who is clearly proud of her daughter said that never had she imagined that Wany would become a celebrated professional singer.

Commenting on Wany’s decision to present the car to her, she said she felt blessed for the gift and joked that she wouldn’t know what to do with it since she never really go out much.

“Wany has always had a kind and generous heart. We are very close and she would always consult me when making any decision,” she said.

“I know that many have questioned her big win at the ABPBH 31, but I told her that being scrutinised is part and parcel of being a public figure.

“She has been through many ups and downs throughout her singing career. I’ve seen her when she’s happy, and I’ve also seen her when she gets sad.

“I think being in the public eye constantly can be a little overwhelming for some especially when there are those who are quick to judge your every move. But I think she’s a champ for powering through and maintaining a positive attitude,” she said of Wany who rose to popularity with her 2016 hit Menahan Rindu.

Besides walking away with Most Popular Artiste award, she also took home the Popular Female Singer trophy.

The ABPBH 31 was held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, last month.
