#Showbiz: Buck up and practise good ethics! — Afdlin Shauki

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular actor and comedian Datuk Afdlin Shauki calls on the country’s aspiring funnymen who graduate from reality shows to emulate the work ethics of Douglas Lim.

He describes 41-year-old Lim as one Malaysia’s finest stand-up comedians who not only works hard, but is respectful of audiences, and prepares his jokes well.

“Douglas faced a lot of obstacles, but persevered to overcome them, and consistently took his comedy to a higher level. His efforts have paid off handsomely, he now commands many sold-out shows which keep audiences tickled from start to finish,” he wrote in an Instagram post yesterday.

Afdlin, 47, also paid tribute to stand-up comedian Dr Jason Leong Say Keong for being a passionate performer who took his craft seriously and has improved tremendously.

“Sad to say, there are some comedians who may be household names, yet don’t practise good ethics and don’t maintain the quality of their work. Such comedians should buck up, by emulating Douglas, Jason and Harith Iskander who set the benchmark high.”

While Afdlin’s fans and followers agreed with him, some expressed their disappointment with some new comedians who were “not funny but annoying”.

“Douglas is smart, disciplined, humble and hardworking. He is a true role model and he will go far. Comedians must respect their audiences and not put them down,” said Wajdi.

“Funnymen must have quality. Douglas, Afdlin, Harith, Jason are my favourites always," said Aziz.

Lim is currently the chief judge of Maharaja Lawak Mega 2018 on Astro Warna (132) and Warna HD (124) at 10pm on Fridays.
