#Showbiz: Exo's Lay shares his 'first time' experiences

KUALA LUMPUR: Lay of ultra-popular South Korean-Chinese boy band Exo is a hardworking and talented artiste with a big heart.

The 27-year-old idol said in a recent interview that his first big purchase was a huge house he bought for his mother as a token of gratitude for all of her time, effort and money spent on raising him. “Mom, you are right, good job,” he said.

Ironically, the singer-songwriter, actor and dancer’s first ever self-penned song was about the weather to which he explained that it really wasn’t “a dope song”.

These were a couple of the answers that Lay provided during the interview by BuzzFeed Celeb on its YouTube channel with regards to his first time experiences on various matters.

The artiste, who came in at the 20th spot on the 2017 Forbes China Celebrity 100 list, spoke in English during the almost 4-minute video.

Apparently Lay’s first instrument was the piano although he revealed that he didn’t always have a passion for playing music.

He was just 6 years old when his mother introduced him to the piano. “She said you should play it but I was like no way, I don’t like it,” he said.

Lay then added: “It was only when I was about 14 did I realise that music is very important in my life.”

His first CD purchase? A Michael Jackson album with one of the late popstar’s most famous songs, Billie Jean.

On his first impression of America, he said: “It’s a big country, everybody looks good and I really love New York hotdogs.”

When asked about the first show he ever binge-watched, Lay confessed that he has to date not been able to do so. “I’m working on or composing music everyday so I never get to watch the whole thing,” he said.

“I always stay in hotels, so no but I should buy an apartment,” he said when asked about his first apartment.

On his first performance, Lay said that it took place during a TV competition in his hometown of Changsha in the Hunan province of China.

He was 13 then and finished at third place which granted him the opportunity to start a career as a local child star.

In 2008, at the age of 16, he successfully auditioned for SM Entertainment at the company’s global casting auditions and later moved to South Korea for his idol training.

Lay then made his debut with Exo in 2012 and the rest, as they say, is history.
