#Showbiz: Munafik 2 is highest grossing Malaysian film

KUALA LUMPUR: It is final! Spiritual horror Munafik 2 is king of the box office with a record RM48 million in sales.

Its director and main star Syamsul Yusof revealed in an Instagram post yesterday that the 2018 film “broke all records” and had officially become the No. 1 at the box office.

“Munafik 2 is highest grossing local film of all time,” he added.

In a separate post, Syamsul also listed Munafik 2, Hantu Kak Limah, Paskal and Polis Evo 2 as the top four Malaysian films. Also screened last year, Hantu Kak Limah, Paskal and Polis Evo 2 raked in RM38 million, RM30 million and RM21.6 million respectively.

“Looks like Polis Evo 2 hasn’t been able to overtake Munafik 2. Anyway, all four films have been phenomenal in the industry of late.

“Thank you Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia. Once again we’ve made local film history. May Skop Productions continue to thrive and make records in the film industry.”

His fans and followers congratulated him and Skop Productions for their success.

“Ustaz Adam will be back! I'm all ready for Munafik 3,” said Hud.

Munafik 2 which was screened in September last year, became the first Malay film to have grossed RM40 million at the box office after 17 days of screening.

Screened in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia, it saw Syamsul reprise his role as spiritual healer Ustaz Adam and battle a ruthless cult leader Abu Ja played by Nasir Bilal Khan.

The sequel to the 2016 film Munafik also starred Maya Karin, Mawi and Fizz Fairuz. Munafik collected RM17 million at the box office.
