KUALA LUMPUR: Following his disclosure of his divorce to actress Vanidah Imran on Instagram which shocked fans yesterday, actor Rashidi Ishak said the time was right to come clean.
Yesterday, the 45-year-old artiste took to his Instagram to announce his divorce to Vanidah, also 45. They officially split on Aug 9 last year.
While there were talks on the grapevine of a divorce, until yesterday, both had kept mum.
“Both Vanidah and I have decided not to reveal about the divorce for the sake of our families’ privacy.
“I initially wanted to reveal three months after that, but somehow it got postponed,” said Rashidi when met at Balai Berita here today.
“And I figured that since I’m going to meet the press to promote Bu, I know I would be asked about the ‘rumours’ again. So I might as well just come clean via social media before that,” said Rashidi who stars in the family drama Bu, which opens in cinemas on Apr 11.
But he was quick to add that the revelation was neither to steal the spotlight when promoting the film, nor to allow him the freedom to start dating again.
“The girl you see me posing with in my IG is actually a paid talent to star in a series of advertisements to promote my Starrasky Parfums products. She’s actually my former staff.
“Since my announcement yesterday, even she was not spared from the brickbats on social media. I feel sorry for her for being dragged into my problem. I’ve already called and apologised to her this morning,” said Rashidi.
He also said that it was still too early to think about finding someone new.
