#Showbiz: Don't dodge IRB, settle tax dues, Siti advises young artistes

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin has reminded younger artistes not to avoid paying their tax dues to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

“With the current online facilities provided, it’s easy to make your own tax returns,” said the 40-year-old artiste when met at the fashion preview of Creacion and SimplySiti by Siti Nurhaliza’s Raya collection at the Malaysian Petroleum Club at the Petronas Twin Towers here, today.

Siti said that even if one has problems settling the amount due, the issue will not go away unless one discusses it with IRB officers.

She said this when asked to comment on artistes and income tax, following the recent case of a celebrity publicly lamenting that she had been blacklisted by the IRB and could not travel overseas.

“I understand that sometimes we forget and miss the tax filing deadline. When I was younger, even I would have overlooked paying my income tax if it were not for my manager who was the one constantly reminding me to do so.

“It’s better to diligently file your taxes annually rather than skipping it for several years, as once the IRB catches up with you, you will face penalties,” said Siti.
