#Showbiz: Jacqueline Wong dropped from TV drama, RM5.3mil scene reshoot

KUALA LUMPUR: Actors Andy Hui and Jacqueline Wong have said sorry, while his wife Sammi Cheng and her partner Kenneth Ma want to move on.

But television station Hong Kong Television Broadcasts or TVB is still smarting from the Hui-Wong cheating scandal, and has dropped Wong from its new drama series.

Asia News Network reported yesterday that TVB will be reshooting parts of its police procedural drama Forensic Heroes IV to remove scenes with Wong in it.

Forensic Heroes IV is one of the television station’s dramas to mark its 52nd anniversary this year. It is scheduled to be released in Hong Kong and China in November.

As Wong, 30, is one of the main actresses in the series, a third of it will have to be reshot after filming was wrapped up in March. According to other news reports, the Hong Kong government may not approve the drama, for featuring an actress caught in a cheating scandal.

Wong and Hui, 51, were caught kissing in the back of a taxi in a video released by entertainment portal Apple Daily on April 16. Wong, the girlfriend of TVB actor Ma, has reportedly gone to the United States to avoid public scrutiny in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s Ming Pao Daily News quoted Forensic Heroes IV producer Mui Siu Ching as saying that to reshoot parts of the show would lead to losses of HK$10 million (RM5.3 million), but she added that the move was fully supported by TVB.

She also said that reshooting process would begin next month and would involve at least 50 scenes.

Mui said her team was in the midst of tweaking the script and negotiating with the actors involved.

She said the reshoot involved rebuilding the set and looking for new locations. As an example, a cafe featured in the original shoot has since been closed.

The crew also had to apply for road closures in Taiwan for refilming and to find a suitable actress to replace Wong.

TVB has also canned several dramas involving Wong, such as The Offliners, The Maid Alliance and Finding Her Voice.
