#Showbiz: Neelofa to voice Quran translation

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular TV host, actress and entrepreneur Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor is set to add another achievement to her resume - audio-visual translator of the Quran.

The 30-year-old artiste said that her next major project was to produce an audio-visual translation of the Quran from Arabic to Malay, and that it was one of her childhood dreams.

“I chose to embark on this project because it is difficult to find such translations of the Holy Book these days. I want people to understand the Quran, not just memorise it, and over the years I’ve been reading it and attending lessons to better understand it,” she said in a news report yesterday.

She also said that Malay translations of the Quran were hardly found on YouTube, as most of them were Urdu or English translations.

“At first, I wanted to translate the Quran into Malay for myself. But friends and family encouraged me to reach out to Malaysians, so I chose to embark on this project which will be of great help to all of us,” she added.

Neelofa said she would translate the shorter verses of the Quran first, followed by the longer ones.

“In future, I hope to share my project on television stations or Islamic applications. At first I’ll translate the short verses, then selected prayers and finally the entire Quran.”

Neelofa and her family will be going on a second pilgrimage to Mecca on Aug 4. “I hope to visit the Holy City every year, for it’s always been my wish to get closer to God.”
