KUALA LUMPUR: Video on demand service provider iflix has confirmed that the new film Rise To Power, a KL Gangster Underworld spin-off, will be made available exclusively via its platform for free beginning Sept 19.
In the film, viewers will get to see more of Dynas Mokhtar’s character as May Wong a.k.a. Madam Wong who is the only female to lead a gangster group in Kuala Lumpur in KL Gangster Underworld Season 1.
“Following positive feedback from many viewers of the action drama series which first aired last year on iflix, many wanted to see more of the character and her relationship with Ayah Zan (played by Hasnul Rahmat),” said Mark Francis, iflix Global original programming director in a press statement.
“When Dynas (who gave birth to her third child last May) was pregnant and while we were planning for the second season of the series, we realised that we could come up with a spin-off prequel to explore Ayah Zan’s character further,” he said.
Francis added that the action film is unique as it would feature a female leading role as someone who is strong and ruthless, and hoped that it will strengthen further the KL Gangster Underworld franchise branding.
Besides Dynas and Hasnul, others in the cast include Azhan rani, Beto Kusyairy, Zahiril Adzim, Amerul Affendi, Ridzuan Hashim, Tony Eusoff and Elvis Chin.
