#Showbiz: MMA blockbuster bags over RM12mil in 3 weeks

KUALA LUMPUR: Director Kabir Bhatia's action-packed mixed martial arts (MMA) film Sangkar has continued to climb higher at the Malaysian box office.

Its co-producer Astro Shaw said that the film's total collections now stood at over RM12 million after 24 days in cinemas nationwide.

"Latest news! Sangkar has successfully collected more than RM12 million in 24 days," said Astro Shaw in its Instagram post yesterday.

Netizens' congratulations poured in, and many of them gave the film the thumbs up for being exciting, entertaining and educational all at once.

One of them Shazzrina said: "I just love Sangkar so much. I saw it more than once and I don't mind seeing it 10 times. I laughed, cried and moved to the edge of my seat. Best gila!"

Another Netizen, Nina said: "Tahniah! Tahniah! Tahniah! It's a fantastic film. Two of our best action heroes and a sweet, talented leading lady too."

Shukor said: "Great job Remy Ishak, Zul Ariffin, Mira Filzah, Kabir Bhatia and the gang. Sangkar is a superbly done Malaysian original story. Full of action, drama, emotion and life's lessons. Love it!"

Sangkar, which opened on Aug 29 stars Zul Ariffin and Remy Ishak as MMA fighters Adam and Johan respectively.

The two men are polar opposites, Adam is an arrogant, playboyish party animal while Johan is kind, soft-spoken and family oriented.

One day, Johan is badly beaten up and left paralysed by gangsters who are fans of Adam.

Adam begins to lose popularity when MMA fans blame him for Johan's injuries, and he chooses to redeem himself by looking after Johan.

He also resorts to joining underground MMA fights to fund Johan's medical expenses, despite the danger they pose to his well-being.

Sangkar is jointly produced by Infinitus Gold, Primeworks Studios, Astro Shaw and MM2 Entertainment.

It also stars newly-crowned Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 32’s (ABPBH 32) Most Popular Artiste Mira Filzah, Ray, Nik Adam Mika and Aman Graseka.
