#Showbiz: Douglas Lim not in demand?

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular funnyman Douglas Lim has made a successful career out of entertaining people but he is rarely seen on the screen, be it big or small.

When asked if he was being selective about his choices, the 42-year-old stand-up comedian, actor and emcee denied that he was being exclusive in terms of projects.

According to a recent news report, he said: “I’m not being exclusive, I’m just not in demand. I honestly want to make people laugh but people don’t offer me jobs. Many assume that I would reject the offers beforehand or that my asking price is just too high.”

Lim added that people might come to this conclusion as well since he rarely did shows or performances for a wider audience of varying ages.

“Maybe my brand of humour is just not right for a varied audience from different age groups or backgrounds. So that’s probably why I don’t get that many offers ,” he said.

That said, the comedian will be starring in a brand new continuation of the classic English sitcom series, Kopitiam, that launched his career 21 years ago.

Titled Kopitiam: Double Shot, the new edition is set to premiere on the streaming platform, Viu (www.viu.com), on Nov 28.

Lim will also be starring in an upcoming Malay film but keeps mum about the details.

“I had to make some sacrifices to be in this particular film. This included declining other job offers and to lose weight in order to prepare for the role. As for the film’s title and who else will be starring in it, that’s all being kept under wraps for now,” he said.
