#Showbiz: It's time TV and film awards give out more than just trophies, says Azhan Rani

KUALA LUMPUR: The villainous Ustaz Hamadi of popular drama series Nur and Nur 2 has a small request for all organisers of TV and film awards.

Actor Azhan Rani who played Hamadi has suggested that actors and actresses who win awards ought to get better "rewards" in the form of cash prizes, along the lines of singers who win talent searches and reality shows.

“If winning singers get cash prizes, why not actors and actresses?" he said in a news report yesterday.

“Most of the TV and film awards these days don't seem to give much impact for the winners. We only get trophies or plaques, yes, that may be recognition but it does not truly reflect the efforts we put in to make our dramas, telemovies and films a success."

Azhan said that in the past decades, award-winning actors and actresses received cash prizes and even holiday packages and other sponsored prizes such as hampers.

“Such incentives really motivated artistes to work harder and excel in their work. I sincerely hope more award organisers will start giving winners more than just trophies and plaques as they did back then," said Azhan.

“Not only do we work hard on the set of dramas and films, we also work hard to invest in costumes that reflect the themes of film awards ceremonies every year. It's about time our rewards go beyond just trophies."

Azhan, 43, won Popular Antagonist in Anugerah Bintang Popular BH (ABPBH) 32 and Choice Antagonist in Anugerah Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur (DFKL) 2019.

Besides Nur and Nur 2, his best known dramas and films include Kolumpo, Lelaki Harapan Dunia, Motif, Spa Q and Saloma.
