KUALA LUMPUR: Thanks to TwoSpicy Entertainment Live and MD Events Asia, the first Nescafe M-Junction Drive-In Cinema was launched yesterday, to provide new cinematic experience to movie-goers, at the Malaysian Tourism Centre (MaTic), in Jalan Ampang here.
TwoSpicy Entertainment Live director Arvin Randahwa said that this new approach to watching movies was taken as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"This idea came about at a time where we have to embrace the new normal. We know that many industries have been affected by the pandemic and this project is among our initiatives to help revive the country's economy.
"This drive-in cinema will definitely give new experience to cinema-goers who are looking for something different. And the experience can be enjoyed by everyone including children," he said in a news report yesterday.
Arvin added that the films to be screened during its three months of operations would be a mixed of new titles and old favourites.
On concerns about the country's wet weather, MD Events Asia director Jack Gill said it would not be a big issue as everyone would be watching in the comfort of their own cars.
"To make the experience more environmental-friendly, movie-goers will need to switch off the engine during screening. We will provide a portable fan for each car.
The drive-in cinema prides itself with promoting the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by supplying each car with a portable rechargeable speaker and fan, encouraging attendees to turn off their engines for the duration of the movie.
The Nescafe M-Junction Drive-In Cinema is the newest attraction in Kuala Lumpur, located in the heart of the city at the Lanai carpark besides MaTiC in Jalan Ampang.
It will be open to the public in the course of the next three months and there will be two screening sessions per day at 6pm and 9pm for the second.
Tickets are priced at RM99 per vehicle, with a maximum of two passengers. Meanwhile, the VIP ticket is priced at RM159 which also comes with refreshments.
