KUALA LUMPUR: The Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH) is back with its 33rd edition.
Themed #ABPBHKITA2020, the gala night will, for the first time, be streamed live via the TikTok video application on Nov 13.
BH group editor Saidon Idris, who is also ABPBH33 patron, said that this year's event would strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the government and comply with instructions and advice issued by the National Security Council and the Health Ministry.
"The theme #ABPBHKITA2020 describes the situation that we are experiencing now which is now our new norm. We are all frontliners as we try to break the chain of the covid-19 infection.
"BH as the organiser and all the parties involved in this year's awards event will have to play an important role in caring for our own.
"It is ABPBH's aim,in every edition it organises, to bring out important message in the theme that it upholds.
"We will ensure the ABPBH legacy continues to be protected and that the event continues to be a grand outing every year no matter the situation we are facing," he said.
Saidon also said that this time around, the voting process for ABPBH would be a little different from previous years.
Meanwhile, Head of Convergence, Commercial and Multimedia, NSTP Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, who is also ABPBH33 organising committee chairman said that ABPBH always strive at making comprehensive adjustments and improvements in accordance with the current situation.
"The improvements include sponsorship packages, content, organising mechanics, nominations, voting as well as activities with artistes and fan clubs which are virtually done to ensure this longest-running readers' choice awards remains relevant," he said.
"At the same time, we want to also emphasise on the security aspect and the need to follow the SOP. That is why this year's event will be held on a smaller scale."
Fans can choose their Top 20 and they will be in the running for the coveted Bintang Paling Popular award which will be announced on the awards night.
There will be 13 main categories, and five online categories.
As an appreciation for fans and fan clubs, the organisers will also host a TikTok competition where fans will have to create their own content on the TikTok app for their favourite artistes and celebrities, with the most creative TikTok video content be crowned the FC FANstatik Popular Award.
