#Showbiz: 'Mat Over' touched by Finas visit

KLANG: Actor and comedian Sulaiman Mat Yasin, fondly known as "Mat Over", is deeply touched when people are still concerned about his life despite him being away from the industry.

Sulaiman, 68, who popularised the character "Mat Over" in the 90s sitcom "Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu" was among veteran artistes visited by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) officials yesterday to receive cash assistance and daily necessities through the Finas Prihatin 2.0 programme.

"Thank you so much to Finas for being sensitive towards artistes who are no longer active in the industry. Anybody would feel touched when there are still people who remember us.

"In this current situation of COVID-19, I hope Finas will continue to care for the industry players because not everyone is lucky," he told reporters during the Finas visit to his house in Kampung Delek, here.

Finas chairman Zakaria Abdul Hamid presented the cash assistance and daily necessities to Sulaiman.

Meanwhile, Zakaria said the Finas Prihatin 2.0 programme would visit 50 industry players, especially senior citizens or those living in hardship.

"The visit is not only to present contributions but also to see how they are. It will also be a platform for us to gather information on artistes and industry players whose names are not listed in any arts association but need our help," he said.

Besides that, Zakaria said the visit could also help "convey" the condition of veteran artistes to any drama or film producer who had no idea of their situation all this while.

"Take Mat Over, for example. When we visit him, then only we know that he is still fit to act. Maybe producers don't know his condition, therefore he doesn't get as many acting offers," he added. -- BERNAMA
