#Showbiz: Jamali Shadat dies at age 78

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular stand-up comedian Datuk Jamali Shadat died at 8.30am today. He was 78.

The unfortunate news was conveyed by his 31-year-old grandson Isyraq Ariff Zalull Ariff to the media.

"The doctors have confirmed that grandfather is no longer with us. Details of the burial will be shared later," he said in a news report today.

Prior to this, the veteran artiste was unwell and unable to walk, as well as experiencing a loss of appetite.

Jamali was deeply affected by the loss of his wife, Lela Yacob who died of a stroke on June 2018, which left him in a depressive state.

His late wife passed away on the first day of Syawal after being bed-ridden for a month in the hospital.

Before that, Jamali had a stroke and was nursed back to health by his beloved wife.

"My late grandmother had set up this house in Pulau Indah, Klang and had planned to live together with my grandfather.

"But she died after the house was completed and only her remains were brought back," said Isyraq.

Jamali was severely affected by the unfortunate incident since his schedule of artistic activities and his daily life were managed by his wife.

"After that, he was just dazed and melancholic. His house was next to my uncle Fauzi's residence and they looked after him," added Isyraq.

Jamali who was born in Bukit Kapar, Klang, Selangor, has eight children and 39 grandchildren.

During his heyday in the 1980s, the legendary comedian was known for his kid role of Atan with his Atuk and friends of various races.
