KUALA LUMPUR: The mother of funnyman Nasir Hamzah or Achey, Ngaisah Hassan, 73, is down with Covid-19 and in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Segamat Hospital in Johor.
The member of comedy troup Bocey said that she had been warded with stage four Covid-19 patients, and had been placed chest-down on her bed to ease her breathing.
"Segamat Hospital told me that her lungs were inflamed and they have been inserting medicine into her body for 10 days. She also has a fever," said Achey in a news report today.
"My mother is actually a stage three patient but doctors have placed her in the stage four ward as she needs better care."
Achey, who is deeply worried about his other family members' condition, said that they caught the coronavirus from customers who purchased food from their roadside stall in Labis.
"My elder sister has returned home after treatment, while my brother and mother are still in hospital," he said, adding that his younger sister, sister-in-law, nephews and nieces were subsequently tested positive for the coronavirus.
Achey, 34, who is recovering from a broken left arm sustained in a road accident last month, said that he had turned "delivery boy" for his loved ones.
"My wife Nor Hasanah Yahaya and I are busy sending food to my mother and brother in hospital as well as our in-laws in Labis," he said, adding that they lived close by.
"We cannot take stuff from my in-laws' house to the hospital, so as to prevent the spread of Covid-19. We both purchase fresh food for my mother and brother, and send them to the hospital."
Achey's loved ones have been hospitalised since last week.
Last month, Ngaisah was hospitalised with a pancreatic illness, and Achey sold five of his motorcycles to fund her medical expenses.
Achey who began his acting career after winning the TV3 comedy talent search Bintang Mencari Bintang's first season in 2013 has appeared in television series Oh My English!, Kintang Kintung and Tanah Kubur, and films as Abang Long Fadil 2, Hantu Wangan and Tiada Tajuk.
