#Showbiz: Kayda Aziz teams up with Shopee for Merdeka-themed music video

KUALA LUMPUR: Hip-hop singer and songwriter Kayda Aziz has a new music video to mark National Day 2021.

The daughter of jazz legend Datuk Sheila Majid and music producer and former Malaysian Idol judge Roslan Aziz has joined forces with e-commerce portal Shopee to come up with a special song for the Shopee Merdeka Day campaign #ShopeeSapotLokal.

"Working on this Merdeka campaign with Shopee has been a delightful experience," said Kayda in a statement today.

"I was inspired to work with Shopee when I found out that some successful entrepreneurs have been selling their products there.

"It is a great honour to come up with the lyrics for this song that pays tribute to the Malaysian e-commerce industry."

Kayda also said that Shopee gave her a free hand in coming up with suitable lyrics for the song, and understood her musical style.

"Despite strict standard operating procedures (SOP), I am happy that we could still come together and create an animated video featuring local entrepreneurs."

The music video depicts animated versions of six entrepreneurs on Shopee in outer space. They land on the moon with their businesses.

The lyrics describe their efforts to go global and remind fellow Malaysians to always believe in themselves.

Shopee Malaysia senior marketing manager Kenneth Soh said that the video allowed Shopee to share the success stories of its sellers in an entertaining way.

"It was an honour working with Kayda in bringing this video to life with her lyrics and vocals," he said.

"I hope everyone will lend our sellers and Kayda their support when the music video is out."

Shopee has also partnered with the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) to host some documentaries on Shopee Live.

The documentaries will be streamed at 9.30pm on Aug 30 and 31, and September 6, 7, 13, 14, and 16.

Malaysians can catch the video on Shopee Malaysia's Facebook and Instagram pages or YouTube channel on Aug 31.
