#Showbiz: 'Classes by inexperienced actors can wreck our industry' - Zul Huzaimy

KUALA LUMPUR: Only actors and actresses with experience should be allowed to organise acting classes for newcomers to the entertainment industry.

This is award-winning actor Zul Huzaimy Marzuki's stand to preserve the quality of acting on the big and small screens.

Zul Huzaimy, who won Best Supporting Actor at the 21st Malaysian Film Festival for the film Wayang said that it was always good for such classes to be conducted by academically qualified and award-winning actors and actresses.

"Actors and actresses without much experience are not suitable to hold acting classes, and doing so would only wreck our industry," said Zul Huzaimy in a news report yesterday.

Zul Huzaimy added that not everything which directors taught new actors and actresses could be put into practice, because different dramas and films required different approaches to acting.

"It is best to be taught by versatile actors and actresses, as they have played a multitude of characters and excelled in their work. They know how to express the emotions of each character they play.

"For example, when you are asked to be angry, you need not shout and scream. You can express your anger in subtle yet effective ways."

Zul Huzaimy also said that it was better for more than one actor or actress to be involved in an acting class.

"It is better for a team of actors and actresses to conduct the class, since each has his or her specialty. A good team will help new actors and actresses improve their skills faster."

While some Netizens have questioned the presence of social media celebrities in dramas and films, Zul Huzaimy said that it was okay for them to act, as long as they took classes.

"It does not matter who acts, so long as he or she works hard to master the craft. For example, singers Siti Nordiana and Khai Bahar attended my classes. They learnt fast and did a good job, despite being newcomers," said Zul Huzaimy.
