Showbiz: Coldplay to retire after 12th album

KUALA LUMPUR: British rock group Coldplay will stop making records after its 12th album.

Entertainment portal AsiaOne reported today that the band which would soon release its ninth studio album, Music Of The Spheres, would only make three more records before "quitting the studio for good".

Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin said: "I think that in a few albums' time we will finish making albums. This is not a joke, this is true, I think after 12 that will be the end of our catalogue."

However Martin, 44, denied that his band which also comprises Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion wanted to fully retire from the music scene.

"We will continue to play live shows as long as we can, even into our 70s, just like the Rolling Stones.

"It would be cool if we can still be touring at that age. That would be wonderful."

Martin also said it was "pure joy" to team up with South Korean pop group BTS recently on their song My Universe.

"It was a weird idea, so wrong on paper in a way, but it allowed us to bring out our inner boyband and them to bring out their inner man band," he said.

The group shot to fame following their debut album Parachutes, which was released in July 2000.
