#Showbiz: The Rock aspires to be the next James Bond

KUALA LUMPUR: With Daniel Craig recently bade adieu to his secret agent character, Dwayne Johnson has expressed his intention to be the next 007.

In an interview in this month's issue of Esquire, the 49-year-old actor, famously known as The Rock, said that it would be a dream come true if he could be the next James Bond.

He said that he had aspired to play the British MI6 secret agent after watching his grandfather, Peter Maivia, acted as a villain alongside Sean Connery in You Only Live Twice back in 1967.

"I don't want to be a villain. You gotta be Bond," explained Johnson who added: "I would like to follow in (Craig's) footsteps and be the next Bond."

Craig had been playing Ian Fleming's famed character since Casino Royale in 2006 and decided that his fifth Bond movie No Time To Die as his last.

If Johnson indeed gets to play Agent 007, he would be the first American and seventh actor to play the spy role after Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Craig.
