#Showbiz: Aishah, Ruffedge and S. Atan tribute concerts to light up DFP

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will be celebrating local artistes and the cultural landscape with three exciting concerts to kick off its 2022 season.

In conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebrations next month, the MPO will pay homage to legendary Malaysian composer S. Atan in a concert, titled Cahaya Aidilfitri – A Tribute to S. Atan.

Set to take place on May 14, the orchestra led by conductor Ahmad Muriz Che Rose will perform some of S. Atan's iconic Aidilfitri songs such as Cahaya Aidilfitri, Dari Jauh Ku Pohon Maaf, Joget Hari Raya, Salam Aidilfitri and many more.

The MPO will also be accompanied by renowned Malaysian artistes, namely Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Jay Jay and Azlina Aziz.

July 2 will see the much-awaited concert of R&B and soul group Ruffedge at the DFP.

Dubbed Ruffera, the popular quintet will serenade fans in an unforgettable one-night only show of beautiful ballads, funky beats and vocal harmonies.

The group will be dishing out its string of hits from Tiada Lagi Cinta, Bila Rindu and Tipah Tertipu to Lemas, Da Bomb and many more.

Last but not least, Malaysian pop queen Aishah will join the MPO to entertain fans in an exciting solo concert, titled Aishah & MPO: A Symphonic Rendezvous on Aug 6.

The sassy songbird will be showcasing her legendary powerhouse vocals during symphonic renditions of her beloved tunes that include Seloka Rindu, Fatwa Pujangga, Kemaafan Dendam Yang Terindah, Janji Manismu and Camar Yang Pulang. The MPO will also be led by conductor Ahmad Muriz Che Rose.

A statement from the MPO read: "These offerings were made possible due to the generous support of the fans who were clamouring for them to be staged at the DFP."

"The concerts were originally slated for the 2020 season but had to be cancelled due to the pandemic," it said.

The MPO added that it required further funding from the public and encourages music fans to donate in order for the establishment to continue to produce quality content.

"You have been our inspiration, motivating us through all of our hard work, hours of practice, commitment and challenges at every level.

"All of our achievements are due to your love and support. Be the instruments that keep us alive.

"Any contribution given will be channelled to further develop the local talents, to engage our audience with a diverse selection of music and performances that appeal to all and to continue to inspire hope by bringing the love of music to everyone," it said.
