#Showbiz: 'Shin Ultraman' coming to Malaysian cinemas in October

KUALA LUMPUR: The latest movie installement of the legendary Japanese superhero Ultraman will be making its way to Malaysian cinemas in October.

Local cinema chain GSC took to social media recently to announce that Shin Ultraman would be screening here.

A twitter post simply read: "Just announced: #ShinUltraman is finally coming exclusively to GSC! See you in GSC this 6 October!"

Fans of the longstanding superhero, who has its origins from the classic Japanese series Ultraman in the 1960s, were elated by the news with many expressing their excitement to watch the new movie.

The tweet by GSC has already been retweeted over 1,359 times and received over 3,107 likes.

Shin Ultraman was first released in Japan in May and has become the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film of 2022.

It is also considered the most commercially successful film in the Ultraman franchise spanning 37 movies.

Directed by Shinji Higuchi, the movie features a screenplay by Hideaki Anno of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame and stars Takumi Saitoh, Masami Nagasawa, Hidetoshi Nishijima, Daiki Arioka and Akari Hayami.

Produced by Toho Pictures and Cine Bazar, Shin Ultraman is the second reboot of a tokusatsu (live-action film or TV drama that makes heavy use of practical special effects) series to be adapted by Anno and Higuchi after Shin Godzilla in 2016 and will be followed by Shin Kamen Rider in 2023.

The new Ultraman movie will follow the adventures of an extraterrestrial who takes on the identity of a man who it accidentally kills while battling a giant monster.
