#Showbiz: Search's Istana Budaya slot a 'grand finale' for Rock On 40 series

KUALA LUMPUR: When Datuk Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, better known as Amy of Search, recently promised fans that he would "give them a grand finale" at Istana Budaya, he meant every word he said.

Search, which comprises lead singer Amy and his bandmates, guitarists Hillary Ang and Man Kidal, and bassist Nasir Daud, gave fans in the packed Panggung Sari concert hall two hours of "rocking good music", featuring 20 songs of the iconic rock band as well as cover versions of English language hits by Ozzy Osbourne, among others.

Search's 8.30pm show tonight marked the third and final day of the Rock On 40 concert series which also featured celebrated rockers Datuk Awie, Muss of May, Riz Halim and Ella on Friday and Saturday.

Among the Search hits which 64-year-old Amy belted out effortlessly as he danced and swayed around the stage were Meniti Titian Usang, Gelora Cinta, Pemuzik Jalanan, Pelesit Kota, Setelah Hujan, Gadisku, Kejora, Melayar Bahtera, Cakap Memang Murah, Isi Atau Kulit, Nigina and Rozana.

As for the English songs, they included Osbourne's Mr Crowley and Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.

Concert organiser Menara Network's chief operating officer Aman Ali said the inclusion of Search as part of the Rock On 40 concert series was the result of popular demand.

"We only got the green light from Istana Budaya for an additional slot a month after Rock On 40 was announced last September. We approached Search with the proposal, and they came to an agreement swiftly," he said.

Rock On 40 was Search's first major concert after Amy received the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (DPSM) from Melaka Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam in conjunction with his 73rd birthday on Aug 24.

Search's last major concert was Konsert Endemik Search held at Zepp KL in Bukit Bintang City Centre on June 4 and 5.

Search was formed 41 years ago in Johor Baru with Amy, Ang, the late drummer Yazit Ahmad and Nasir as its original members.
