#Showbiz: Staying fit for her son, Shila Amzah reveals how she dropped 14kg

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Shila Amzah successfully shed 14kg over the last year, by following a simple and practical "formula".

This "formula" comprises eating in moderation, walking short distances instead of hopping on the first taxi, taking the stairs instead of the lifts, drinking plain water instead of sweet drinks and reducing carbohydrate intake.

"After becoming a mum, I packed on the kilos. I had to do something to be in good shape again," said Shila at the launch of her new concert tour Journey To The Future at The RuMa Hotel in Jalan Kia Peng today.

She said losing the weight made her feel more happy and confident.

"Seeking advice from family and close friends, I embarked on a personal journey to get back in shape and I started losing weight as the months went by.

"It wasn't easy at first, but the self-discipline I developed as a performer pushed me to go the extra mile."

Shila said that she did not focus her mind on losing weight fast but on getting healthier.

"Focusing on weight loss for weight loss' sake doesn't help as it becomes a chore. Thinking of getting healthier is a positive thought and when I think positive, things begin to happen."

Shila, 32, also said that being a single mother to her son Seth Uwais, two, motivated her to lose weight.

"I have to stay fit for my son as he depends on me."

Seth is Shila's son from her four-year marriage to Haris Idraki Elias which ended in February last year.

Journey To The Future will kick off at 8pm on March 4 at the KL Convention Centre in Jalan Pinang.

Shila will subsequently entertain fans in Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore and Indonesia.

Organised by IMC Live Global, tickets are priced from RM238 to RM638 and will be available via All Access Asia and TicketCharge beginning Monday.
