#Showbiz: Bront Palarae advises fellow artistes to get insurance coverage

KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning actor Bront Palarae has advised fellow artistes to get insurance coverage for their work on film sets or locations.

This is an early measure to safeguard themselves in the event of any unfortunate incident that might occur during the course of carrying out their jobs.

"Take the initiative to do so since we are working to provide for our families. After all, these insurance schemes do provide the benefit of compensation to our families in case anything bad happens.

"At least the compensation will be able to take care of family expenditures for several months while the artiste recovers from the injury," he said.

The 44-year-old Ola Bola, Dukun and Hanyut actor was commenting on the recent incident involving actress Fasha Sandha who had suffered an injury on her left eye during the filming of a drama series in Johor.

In the incident, Fasha suffered a fractured bone in her eye socket and a swollen eye ball after accidentally hitting a sharp corner of a bed during the filming of a physical scene.

Bront added that the matter of ensuring those involved in production work were covered by insurance should not be taken lightly.

"It's usually standard practice to have insurance. As an artiste it's not an issue but when there's no insurance coverage, then it becomes one.

"I know that not all producers care about the importance of providing insurance for the artistes.

"Similar incidents have occurred many times but there are still certain productions that don't seem to take notice," he said.

Bront was met during the press conference for the 6th Malaysian International Film Festival at the Parkroyal Collection KL earlier today.

The actor is serving as ambassador to the festival which is set to take place at Lalaport BBCC, here from July 23 to 29.
