#Showbiz: Discover the flavours of identity with Theatresauce's 'Come Home And Eat'

KUALA LUMPUR: The new theatre production, Come Home And Eat, explores the various notions of home and its anxieties through the lens of food.

Presented by Theatresauce, the show will run from April 13 to 16 at KLPAC's Pentas 2.

The show's title is inspired by the phrase many Malaysians grow up hearing from their parents and guardians.

Its subtext is a little more complex, where food becomes a medium to convey affection, express concern, offer forgiveness, and rekindle fraught relationships.

While food serves as a unifying denominator on a national scale, it has also been used to segregate, oppress, and exploit communities.

The performance aims to explore how one finds a sense of belonging and themselves – through eating trends, passed-down recipes, rising food prices, in the kitchen, and at the restaurant table.

The production utilises an array of immersive storytelling approaches, from monologues and satire to expressive movement and multimedia, while mixing up real and fictional narratives.

Real food is used to augment the theatrical experience. There are also sections where audiences are invited to interact physically and through their phones.

Directed by Theatresauce's artistic director Kelvin Wong, the show stars Farah Rani, Kamini Senthilathiban, Nabil Zakaria, Nephi Shaine, Nicholas Augustin, Ryan Yap, and Sharanya Radhakrishnan.

This production is a sequel to 'Don't Like It Here? Then Leave', which was staged in May last year.

Come Home And Eat also serves as the first work of seven new devised projects by Theatresauce, as part of the company's seventh-anniversary celebration this year.

Tickets to the show, which starts at 8.45pm (with additional 3pm shows over the weekend), are priced at RM55 and can be purchased via www.cloudjoi.com.

Bulk purchase packages at RM35 per ticket with pre-performance workshops are available for university or college bookings.

Interested parties can email chloe@theatresauce.com for details.

The 120-minute-long theatre production, with a 15-minute intermission, features dialogue in English, Malay, Chinese, Tamil, and other Malaysian languages, with English surtitles.

Come Home And Eat is strictly for mature audiences.
