#Showbiz: Veteran actress Mek Habsah dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Versatile veteran actress Habsah Bakar or Mek Habsah died at the Institute of Respiratory Medicine (IPR) at 2.45am today. She was 67.

Her grandson Huraimi Hilman, 26, said that she had been hospitalised with a lung ailment since July 12.

"My grandmother had been ill for sometime and needed to breathe with the aid of a ventilator," he told Berita Harian Online.

Huraimi described his grandmother as strict but loving towards her grandchildren.

Habsah is best known for starring in the 1990s comedy series Salam Pantai Timur. She also starred in telemovies and drama series and sang in the 1980s.

Habsah is survived by her husband, two daughters and nine grandchildren.

Huraimi said that Habsah's remains would be brought to Masjid Bilal Bin Rabah, Taman Koperasi Polis for prayers and she will be laid to rest at the Raudathul Sakinah Islamic Cemetery after Zohor prayers.
