KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian artistes Pop Shuvit, Hujan, and Yuji will head to Australia to share a stage with 10 other music acts from Indonesia and Korea for the Touchdown Under showcase at SXSW Sydney 2023 next week.
The artistes who will perform on Oct 19 and 20 were selected and presented by China's Concrete & Grass Music Festival and Asia's biggest label group, YEG Music.
Rap rock band Pop Shuvit has entertained music fans with its unique blend of funky, eclectic beats and hard-hitting riffs for over 20 years.
The MTV Asia Awards-nominated band has shared a stage with the likes of American rock outfit My Chemical Romance as its official Asian tour support.
"We are proud to be part of such a prestigious festival alongside other great acts from Asia and around the world.
"We thank SXSW and YEG for this opportunity as well as providing a platform for Asian artistes to showcase our music," said Pop Shuvit frontman Moots in a recent statement.
Hujan singer and guitarist Noh Salleh said: "It is such an honour to be representing Malaysia at SXSW Sydney this year with other great acts, and we intend to give our best for the show."
The local premiere indie rock band has graced stages from Singapore and the UK to France and Australia.
Emerging R&B artiste Yuji received the title of Most Streams of A Spotify Song from the Malaysia Book of Records in July for his hit song, Old Love.
"The last year has been a whirlwind for me with the success of Old Love, and I would never have believed you if you told me a year ago that I would be performing at SXSW in Sydney," said Yuji.
The inaugural Touchdown Under showcase at SXSW Sydney is an initiative by YEG to showcase the label's newest talent and Concrete & Grass, established in 2015.
The other music acts that will perform at the 2-day free event are Isyana Sarasvati, GAC, Hindia, Nadin Amizah, Owen, Marv, Feby Putri, Ardhito Pramono, Soegi Bornean and Adhitia Sofyan.
