#Showbiz: Pro-Israel group uses Malaysian comedy scene to attack 'Hamas propaganda'

KUALA LUMPUR: A pro-Israel group in social media has claimed that a scene from a comedy directed by acclaimed Malaysian director Al Jafree Md Yusop of Mencari Rahmat fame, was "Hamas propaganda".

The scene showed Malaysian comedian Mohamad Syahir Ramariff or Tapai Gegar Lawak, 38, lying on a hospital bed with an oxygen mask on his ear, ECG sensor on his forehead and cheek, and oximeter on his nose, all of which proved that he was not a real patient.

The pro-Israel group claimed that the photo of Mohamad Syahir was a Hamas propaganda ploy to exaggerate the number of victims killed or injured by Israel's on-going bombing of Gaza.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, Al Jafree said the photo was a scene from his Hari Raya telemovie Laksa Di Ambang Wati which was screened on Astro Warna in 2018.

"It is a surreal comedy about life in Penang and has nothing to do with the conflict in Gaza," he said, revealing that the man on the hospital bed was Mohamad Syahir.

Israeli journalist Hanoch Daum had earlier shared the photo of Mohamad Syahir on Instagram, and the pro-Israeli group had claimed that the photo was taken at a hospital in Gaza.

The caption to Daum's photo said that the medical equipment was not properly placed on the patient's face, and this was proof that Hamas was "faking" injured people.

Earlier this year, a pro-Israel group on social media uploaded a video clip showing religious authorities at a mosque in Pahang conducting a course on the proper way to bury the dead.

The group claimed that the people conducting the course were Palestinians and it was a move to "fake the number of deaths" caused by Israeli attacks on Gaza.
