#Showbiz: 'Big is beautiful' at Aina Abdul's magical evening

WHENEVER Aina Abdul takes to the stage, she gets the crowd roaring with applause.

Not only does she have a powerful and soulful voice, she is also glamorous with big dresses that are "out of this world".

GLAMOROUS DRESSES

The 30-year-old was exactly as described throughout her three-hour concert, A Night With Aina Abdul 3.0, held at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on Nov 18.

She wowed fans with five outfits, specially created for the occasion by fashion designers Rizman Ruzaini, Zaimi Zulkafli, Melinda Looi and Ezuwan Ismail.

One of her dresses, a blue one designed by Zaimi, was loaded with special effects, such as dry ice which emanated from it like smoke, and twirling blue flowers operated by remote control.

RECORDED MESSAGE

Aina took five minutes to slip each dress on, and she only got to wear them a day prior to the concert.

Aina's company Aina Abdul Entertainment, which organised the concert, invested more than RM400,000 on the outfits and special effects.

The concert, which was attended by 10,000 guests, began at 8pm, and 45 minutes prior, the singer greeted her guests via a recorded message, reminding them that the concert would be beginning soon.

SILVER DRESS

Aina delivered 34 songs which drew several standing ovations, and got fans to sing and dance.

She emerged in a sparkling, silver dress at 8pm, singing 'Ghost' which spoke of not being appreciated.

She was accompanied by six male dancers in tracksuits who pranced around her like hungry wolves.

UNWISE DECISIONS

After singing 'Fool', an anthem against untrustworthy people, and 'Kelip-Kelip' about making unwise decisions, Aina greeted her fans with a generous smile.

She also gave a shout-out to fans from various states.

"Thank you Malaysians," she said, before singing 'Kamu', a song of hope and 'Bleed' about having to live with mistakes.

SPECIAL SURPRISE

Her next song 'Blue' was hauntingly beautiful and spoke of a lover's devotion to her partner. Likewise 'Shadow', a poignant sing-along number about not wanting to let go.

"Are you ready, guys and girls?" asked Aina. "I've got a special surprise for you!"

Fans soon began chanting 'Sumpah' and sure enough Aina belted out her monster hit, to where the audience sang the entire chorus.

OUT OF THIS WORLD

Now donning her out-of-this-world blue dress, Aina returned to the stage to sing 'Bilang', an anthem about doubt, and 'Bukan Untukku' and 'Sedia Terluka' which spoke of the need to move on.

"My next song was specially produced by Jenny Chin, our music director," said Aina as she belted out 'Sesal' about regret.

Her next song, 'Nada Kalbu', appeared to be Sesal's follow-up as it spoke of hope.

SPECIAL GUEST

"And now, here comes the song that made me a household name!" quipped Aina as she belted out 'Sepi'.

Aina nipped backstage, and Khai Bahar emerged in a silver suit, to serenade fans with his hit single 'Bayang'.

"You look amazingly beautiful tonight, Aina," said Khai as Aina returned dressed like an angel in pink.

"Thank you, Khai. You're looking great too," replied Aina, as she and Khai performed their hit duet 'Nafas Cinta'.

K-POP

Aina then took on five K-Pop songs namely 'Beautiful' by Crush, 'I Will Go To You Like The First Snow' by Ailee, 'This Love' by Davichi, and 'Shut Down' and 'How You Like That' by BlackPink.

Throughout this segment, her fans waved their lit-up handphones and cheered "We love you Aina!"

LAGU ASLI

In her next segment, a tribute to her idol the late Datuk Sharifah Aini, Aina donned a large, red Minangkabau-style dress.

Accompanied by 10 young dancers from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kerdau in Temerloh, Pahang, Aina delivered flawless renditions of the traditional Malay songs 'Fatwa Pujangga', 'Bunga Tanjung' and 'Empat Dara'.

She then invited on stage Akademi Fantasia Season 4 graduate Haziq Rosebi, who expressed admiration for her musical versatility.

"Thank you Haziq, I'm a big fan of you too," replied Aina as they sang two duets — 'Lemak Manis' and 'Joget Cinta Sakti'.

FOR PALESTINE

"This next song is my first attempt an an Arabic number and it is specially for Palestine," said Aina, as she sang 'Atoune El Toufoule' beautifully.

Aina's fourth dress for the evening, a glittering golden one, marked her final segment, and she began it with 'Puas Sudah', produced by her other music director for the evening Mac Chew.

SOUFUL COLLABORATION

Aina then gave fans two bilingual songs titled 'Kejam' and 'Maybe', the first about the pain of being cheated, and the second about pulling oneself up again.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to present you one of my idols, Lah Ahmad," said Aina, as Lah arrived on stage.

"Thank you, Aina, you are my idol too," said Lah, as he and Aina delivered 'Tunggu Kamu', a soulful song which he wrote and composed.

FOUND HER DOUBLE

Aina then left the stage to mingle with the crowd. She remarked that one of her young fans looked almost like herself as a pre-teen.

"I've finally found my double," she said, as she sang the hopeful 'Mimpi Kita' and the motivational 'Jangan Mati Rasa Itu'.

After giving fans one last sing-along opportunity with 'Semalam', Aina had the stage lights dimmed for a few minutes, before she re-emerged in white to sing 'Terus Hidup' which earned her Best Song and Best Vocals in Anugerah Juara Lagu 37.

TO SINGAPORE

"I've got great news guys, come Jan 6, 2024 "I'll be entertaining fans for the first time in Singapore at Mediacorp Studio,' said Aina after the concert ended.
