#Showbiz: ALIFE tells politicians to stop politicising concerts

KUALA LUMPUR: The Arts, Live Festival and Events Association (ALIFE) has asked politicians to stop from politicising concerts.

ALIFE, in a statement said having multicultural events and concerts in Kelantan promotes diversity and understanding of different cultures and religions.

Its president Rizal Kamal said that the recent Loy Krathong Festival held in Bachok, Kelantan was a great example of a religious event that aimed to pay respects to the Goddess of Water and Buddha.

Rizal said: "In light of these developments, ALIFE urges politicians to cease politicising concerts as it seems that everyone can see the value of having these events.

"It is crucial to recognise that each state in Malaysia has its own distinct level of acceptance and understanding.

"The Federal Territories, Selangor, Penang, Johor, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak are eager to enjoy the cultural and economic benefits that result from hosting diverse shows and concerts.

"It is better for politicians to redirect their focus to more pressing issues that will enhance the well-being of all Malaysians, irrespective of their racial and religious backgrounds."

Rizal also said that concerts have the ability to bring people together, fostering unity and understanding amongst diverse communities.

Therefore the recent attacks on concerts not only created division amongst Non-Muslims and Muslims, but between Muslims as well.

"I would like to stress the transformative impact of live music events on our society. However, it is equally crucial that organisers ensure proper permits.

"Beyond this, it is disheartening to witness concerts being politicised. The government and opposition must refrain from using these events as political tactics and redirect focus to pressing national issues.

"Concerts have the power to unite diverse communities, let us prioritise issues that enhance the well-being of all Malaysians, fostering a harmonious and prosperous nation."

Nonetheless, every concert in Peninsular Malaysia had to go through PUSPAL applications, it added.

Rizal said: "The purpose is to ensure that the international performers are aware and follow guidelines provided by the federal government.

"ALIFE was informed that the recent Loy Krathong Festival held in Kelantan did not obtain the required permit from PUSPAL, even though they had performers from Thailand, which underscores the importance of proper adherence to regulatory processes.

"While ALIFE supports the celebration of cultural richness, it is imperative that organisers adhere to federal laws and obtain PUSPAL approval, secure proper working visas, fulfill bond requirements, and conduct concerts in accordance with PUSPAL guidelines," he said.
