#Showbiz: Syafinaz wonders why 'Bintang RTM' talents today don't shine much

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite it being the longest running singing competition, and having discovered many of the country's talented and illustrious singers in the past, singer and vocal coach Datuk Syafinaz Selamat is disheartened to see how TV show Bintang RTM is not as popular as other talent shows on TV now.

In a news report yesterday, Syafinaz, 50, who is the permanent judge of Bintang RTM 2024, shared her puzzlement on why talents from this programme rarely get much attention compared to those from other reality shows these days.

"I had thought about this, but couldn't pinpoint the real reason why. Honestly speaking, those who end up on this show are a talented lot.

"As a judge, I'd assess them based on their talent. And I do find them well-equipped when it comes to singing capability. And yet, many rarely shine.

"Their talent shouldn't be wasted. It's a pity when that happens," said Syafinaz who added that sometimes listeners today paid more attention on other factors over talent and skills.

She added that artistes today also could not depend only on traditional promotion strategies, but must be wise to strategise on their social media accounts too.

"Besides being able to sing, one also needs to create good content to share on social media."
