KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas is ushering in the Chinese New Year with two webfilms, and is launching its Dreams initiative to mark its 50th anniversary this year.
For the first time, Petronas will release two festive films for Chinese New Year.
The interconnected tales of 'To Those Who Wait To Celebrate' and 'When The Heart Calls' weave together two perspectives across different eras.
Directed by Dick Chua, these films explore the Chinese culture of celebrating the Lunar New Year between husband and wife.
The first day is when families return to the husband's home to celebrate. They will then return to the wife's home to continue the celebration on the second day.
Petronas senior general manager of strategic relations Khairudin Jaafar said: "These films draw inspiration from true stories, paying homage to a cherished tradition that has touched our hearts.
"These films are retold with Petronas' storytelling heritage in mind.
"We are honoured to present them in the hope of fostering an understanding of diverse Malaysian heritage."
The release of the webfilms are in concert with Petronas' golden birthday activities, beginning with Petronas 50 Dreams.
Senior general manager of strategic communications Siti Azlina Abdul Latif said: "As a company that is part of society's fabric, Petronas and its staff are banding together with communities to make 50 real-life dreams come true during festivities in 2024.
"From fulfilling a terminally-ill child's wish and realising a physically-challenged boy's dream of playing basketball, to setting up learning corners (STEM related) in rural schools, Petronas continues to celebrate the rich tapestry of diverse human experiences as it celebrates its 50th anniversary."
The webfilms and Petronas 50 Dreams were launched by Khairudin and Siti Azlina in Petaling Jaya today.
Keep a lookout for Petronas 50 Dreams stories starting from the first day of Chinese New Year, while the webfilms can be viewed from today on the company's Facebook page and YouTube channel.
