#Showbiz: Staging 'Voice of the Heart' concert in the name of charity

EVERGREEN singer Jay Jay is thrilled about the upcoming 'Voice of the Heart' concert set to take place at Zepp Kuala Lumpur on March 7.

The show will be the 66-year-old veteran artiste's first big-scale performance.

Despite having recorded various hits since becoming a singer in 1979, this will be a milestone moment as he takes the stage with three other popular singers, namely Rahmad of Mega, Ernie Zakri and Nadeera.

"Although I've been actively singing and performing all this while, it's always performances on a much smaller scale, or at private dinner events.

"So this is a huge opportunity for me," says the singer whose full name is Mohd Fauzi Darus.

Known for the hit song 'Rindu Bayangan' from his time as a member of the band Carefree, Jay Jay is also happy that proceeds from the upcoming concert will go to charity organisations, including one for the Palestinians.

"We're all aware of the unfortunate conflict and I hope by being a part of this concert, I can do my part to help them," he says.

Fellow artiste Rahmad adds: "While we can't be there to assist the Palestinians, I hope what small bit we do by staging this concert will help to lighten their burden."

"The news we get is enough to pull at our heartstrings but imagine what they're actually going through every day since last October," says the 54-year-old artiste who was part of the popular band Mega in the first half of the 1990s.

Ernie, 31, is equally grateful to be part of this charity concert.

"Besides entertaining the concertgoers, I hope that the message of the concert is clear, that we remember those who are less fortunate and share with them the contribution we make through this event," she says.

Looking forward to the event, Nadeera Zaini, 30, says this will be her first charity event for the Palestinians.

"Sharing the stage with the other well-known singers is also a big honour for me," she humbly adds while thanking organiser CS Excellent for including her in the lineup.

Managing director of CS Excellent, Marinatasha Mustapar says she is grateful for support from the Communications Ministry."Through MyCreative Ventures and the Digital Content Fund initiative, we are able to realise this project which benefits many quarters.

"While concertgoers can unwind and do their bit for charity, we also hope to ease the burden of the recipients of the funds raised," explains Marinatasha.

Three organisations will benefit from the funds raised from this concert — Persatuan Cinta Gaza Malaysia, Persatuan Artis Veteran Malaysia and Pertubuhan Limpahan Kasih (Anak-Anak Yatim dan Asnaf).

Marinatasha adds that the four artistes were from different eras, which served to attract a varied crowd to the concert.

"While Jay Jay represents the 1970s and 1980s, Rahmad the 1990s, both Ernie and Nadeera represent today's generation.

"Besides singing their popular tunes, they will also be singing songs specially dedicated to the Palestinians.

"I really hope that through this concert, we will be able to bring some cheer into their lives, especially with Ramadan being around the corner," says Marinatasha.
