#Showbiz: 'Paid' film critics are often destructive instead of constructive — Ahmad Idham

KUALA LUMPUR: Anak Perjanjian Syaitan 2 director Dr Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri has described "paid" film critics as counter-productive towards the local film industry.

He said that such critics were often "destructive instead of constructive."

Ahmad Idham, 52, said that such film critics appeared suddenly on social media such as YouTube and TikTok and "did not sound professional" in their approaches.

"Their paid reviews of films are often nasty, they do not give credit where it is due. If they are professional they should point out what they like and what they do not like about the films that they are reviewing," he said in an interview with Harian Metro Online yesterday.

Ahmad Idham also said that his latest film Anak Perjanjian Syaitan 2 had done "exceptionally well" at the box office collecting RM3.5 million since it premiered on Jan 4.

"Thank God it has done brilliantly at the box office after facing lots of challenges in the production process over the last year.

"It is a very encouraging comeback film for me after my two-year stint as National Film Development Corporation (Finas) chief executive officer," said Ahmad Idham who served Finas from 2019 to 2021.

Anak Perjanjian Syaitan 2 is produced by Grand Brilliance Studios and stars Eyka Farhana, Alif Satar, Fasha Sandha, Azlan Komeng, Dian P. Ramlee, Azizah Mahzan and Shaharuddin Thamby.
