#Showbiz: Nana Mahazan heads back to her hometown every Raya since husband is a Muslim convert

KUALA LUMPUR: TV host, singer, and actress, Nana Mahazan says she has the advantage of "balik kampung" to her family's hometown every Raya since she married a non-Malay.

The 40-year-old artiste, whose full name is Nurul Hana Che Mahazan, revealed that her two siblings had also married Muslim converts, according to Oh Bulan!.

"Every Raya, I will balik kampung. It's an advantage as my husband does not celebrate Raya because he is a mualaf (Muslim convert).

"It's also interesting since my elder brother married a Chinese, I married a mixed Chinese-Indian man and my younger brother married an Indian. Only my youngest sister has not married yet.

"Come to think of it, every Eid, all the siblings will go back to my mom's house. No headache in worrying on whether to head back to the husband's or wife's kampung," she said in the news report today.

Nana, who was born in Muar, Johor, added that she and her siblings had never planned on marrying non-Malays.

"Perhaps we have already been fated to get married to non-Malays. Allah is the one who determines everything.

Talking about her Raya celebrations, Nana said her family would prepare all the food themselves.

"Every Eid, my brothers and I will cook. Mom supervises and rests, while we prepare all of the dishes.

"The first day of Raya is like everyone else, we forgive each other in the morning and then eat the Raya food," she said.

Nana tied the knot with Mohamed Raqeem Brian Abdullah who hails from Sarawak on June 6, 2009. The couple has two children, Althea and Aaqib.
