Govt to launch new digital card for Muslim converts

MEMBAKUT: The government is set to introduce a Digital Mualaf Card that will benefit those converting to Islam, Sabah Media reported.

State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif announced the development during a press conference after the 15th annual Ramadan Celebration with Mualaf at Dewan Seri Wawasan Kampung Pimping on April 2.

Arifin, also serving as the State's Religious Affairs Exco, highlighted that this digital initiative by the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department aims to streamline conversion processes, especially for new converts to Islam.

Following the earlier introduction of the Digital Marriage Certificate, which features several security aspects, the forthcoming Digital Mualaf Card is expected to expedite administrative processes related to Islamic conversion.

During the Ramadan event in the Membakut constituency, Arifin also took the opportunity to gather new Muslim converts, providing them with insights into Islamic laws and practices through renowned speakers, along with distributing Ramadan gifts.

A total of 590 new converts from the Membakut area received the Ramadan gifts, personally handed out by Arifin, who is also the State Assemblyman for Membakut.

In his speech, Arifin emphasised the importance of maintaining bonds of kinship and harmony across religious lines, noting that embracing Islam does not mean severing ties with non-Muslim family members.
