Shell Recharge revises charging rates

SHELL Recharge has revised its charging structure in line with the company's transition to the new kilowatt-hour (kWh) pricing mechanism.

The new kWh rates for AC charging came into effect last month, while the DC charging rates were updated this month.

Reservation fee still applies and a new idle charge fee has been implemented across the different charging archetypes to prioritise smart parking bays for electric vehicle (EV) owners.

The update announcement was made public during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Shell Recharge, Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia Bhd for the setting up of an ultra-fast 360kW high-performance charging (HPC) hub.

Scheduled to be ready by early next year, the all-in-one hub will be outfitted with 10 charging bays, comprising four 360kW high-performance charging bays and six 22kW AC charging bays.

Located at Resorts World Genting, the charging hub will improve accessibility for EVs. All chargers come with CCS Type 2 charging connectors, which allow for a super-fast speed charging experience.

Shell Mobility Malaysia general manager Seow Lee Ming said the project, made possible through the strategic tripartite partnership, reflected the company's continued commitment to a net-zero transport solution in Malaysia.

"EV owners from all over the country and beyond will soon be able to drive their way up to this premier resort without having range anxiety," she added.

Speaking at the plan's unveiling and partnership announcement, Sime Darby Auto Performance chief executive officer Christopher Hunter, who represented Porsche, said the partnership with Shell Recharge was a testament to its commitment to enabling long-distance and cross-border travel in an EV, which in effect also connected the three countries of Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

"We are delighted to further elevate the seamless charging experience, especially for our Porsche Taycan owners, as well as other Porsche EV models on the horizon, with this new high-performance Shell Recharge 360kW DC charging hub at Resorts World Genting. It provides ultra-fast charging speeds of just approximately 20 minutes for a complete five to 80 per cent state of charge."

Genting Real Estate Development and Project senior vice-president Gary Chen Wing Kong said the company was honoured to be able to offer a high-performance EV charging hub to its guests.

"With the rapid adoption of EVs in Malaysia and across the region, this will help promote sustainable tourism and provide convenience to visitors at Resorts World Genting," he said.

This latest EV charging hub brings the Shell Recharge EV network to a total of 136 charging points.
