Lee Chong Wei made it through to second round

KUALA LUMPUR: Lee Chong Wei, suffered a close shave but still made it through to the second round of the Japan Open today.

The 33-year-old Malaysian, who is playing in his first Super Series since his suspension last year, had to come from a game down to defeat Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana 10-21, 21-15, 21-16 in the first round.

Chong Wei will play the winner of the match between China's Lin Dan and South Korea's Son Wan Ho next.

The other Malaysians who are through to the next round are men's doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, who beat Japan's Hiroyuki Saeki-Ryota Taohata 19-21, 21-19, 21-16.

The Malaysian duo will play Denmark's Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen tomorrow.

Mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, have also checked themselves into the second round following their 21-16, 21-18 win over China's Wang Yilv-Luo Yu.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying, take on top seeds and world No 1 Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei in the second round tomorrow.
