Uitm student land a spot in Malaysia Book of Records for solo roller blades tour

SHAH ALAM: Student Azam Mohd Shihid has earned himself a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records for completing a 2153km solo tour on roller blades across several states in Peninsular Malaysia.

The 21-year-old ended the tour when he arrived at UiTM Shah Alam today and the milestone was special as he had completed his mission on Malaysia Day.

Azam, a Sports Science student of UiTM, kick-start his tour on Aug 17 in a collaboration between the university and Graha Karsa.

" Alhamdullilah. I have successfully completed this mission on Malaysia Day and this is possible because of the never ending support I have gotten from everyone. All that I have learned and the precious knowledge gained throughout this solo tour will benefit me in future missions," he said.

He described the solo tour as tough as he had to face unexpected weather conditions and other factors such as uneven roads that needed him to be strong physically and mentally.

" The journey from UiTM Machang campus in Kelantan towards UiTM Merbok campus was the most challenging as I had to pass through the Titiwangsa range," he said.

Azam said he now aimed to go the same tour in New Zealand next year before trying to break a record for a 10,000km solo tour on roller blades in South America in 2018.

Meanwhile, UiTM vice-chancellor Tan Sri Prof Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar congratulated Azam, saying that the youth's success was the institutions pride.

" His determination and perseverance to complete the tour is an inspiration to other students as we can achieve anything we want as long as we work hard towards it," he said.
