Pas was invited to Pakatan Harapan meeting: Azmin

SABAK BERNAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat denies that Pas was not informed about the roundtable meeting to form Pakatan Harapan on Tuesday.

Its deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said all Opposition parties, including Pas and several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were invited and they were aware of what the meeting intended to accomplish.

"We invited all parties, maybe that day Pas top leaders have other engagements and that was why they did not attend.

"Pas did not come this time but we will hold another roundtable meeting in the near future," he told reporters after attending Hari Raya Haji qurban programme, here, yesterday.

Azmin was commenting on Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man's statement that Pas was not informed about the roundtable meeting when its leaders met PKR earlier on September 15.

Tuan Ibrahim said when it was announced, PKR gave the impression that the discussion would be on issues that affected the public's interests but what has happened showed that it had another agenda, the establishment of Pakatan Harapan, without Pas.

Asked to comment on Pas's inability to make a conclusive decision on whether to support Pakatan Harapan's selection of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its Prime Minister-designate if it wins the general election, Azmin said the matter could be discussed in the next round of meeting.

"When we hold a meeting (with Pas) soon, this problem can be discussed," he said, adding that PKR would persuade Pas to join the new pact in the next roundtable meeting.

Pas is of the opinion that Anwar's selection is unfeasible and unrealistic since the jailed PKR de facto leader cannot hold the post.

The Selangor Menteri Besar also reiterated that the state government administration would continue as usual and the current exco lineup would not be reshuffled although Pas' splinter party, Parti Amanah Rakyat is now part of part of the new coalition.

"The current state government was formed after PKR, Pas and Dap got the people's mandate in the last general election. Therefore, there is no reason for a reshuffle," he said.
