Postcard memories of the late P. Ramlee

GEORGE TOWN: HE will not be forgotten by Malaysians. Ramlee Puteh or Tan Sri P. Ramlee is the nation’s pride and his contribution to the local entertainment industry has been invaluable.

To commemorate the life of the legendary artiste, two friends, M. Tiyaga and Sundara Raj, have reproduced photographs of the icon in a set of postcards.

The 16-piece, limited edition set shows P. Ramlee in his prime and at the height of his popularity.

Among the pictures are one of him with two Asian Film Festival Awards trophies, with his wife Puan Sri Salmah Ismail (Saloma), and his identification card.

“The photographs for the postcards came from the National Archives of Malaysia.

“We were very careful in choosing the pictures. I am sure many of the images have not been seen by the general public,” said Sundara, an ardent fan.

He said the idea came from Tiyaga, who has been collecting P. Ramlee paraphernalia and pictures since young.

State P. Ramlee Fan Club president Datuk Seri Mohd Yussof Latiff said the postcards are a testament of the artiste’s contribution to the nation.

“The set can be kept as a personal collection for fans,” he said at the launch at Rumah P. Ramlee in Jalan P. Ramlee.

The postcards are available at Rumah P. Ramlee and Arkib Negara, priced at RM50 per set.
