Part of Medan Selera Stadium closed for repairs

IPOH: A section of the Medan Selera Stadium will be closed for two weeks to repair damages caused by several trees which were uprooted recently.

Strong winds and heavy rain brought down the trees near the food court, damaging 10 stalls.

Ipoh City Council corporate affairs principal assistant director Normala Latiff said part of the roof was blown away, and tables and chairs were broken.

Repair work will include resurfacing the floor.

Normala said this was the first time the food court was undergoing major renovation.

“Every year, we carry out minor repairs at the food court such as changing the wiring or piping, repairing tables and chairs and painting works.”

She said the council had plans to carry out a major renovation but due to lack of funds, the plans could not be implemented.

“We wanted to renovate the whole food court earlier but could only afford to carry out minor repairs till now,” she said.

A recent Streets check showed repair works were in full swing and the roof being fixed.

The food court, at Jalan Komplek Sukan here, was built in 1987 by the Ipoh City Council (MBI).

It has 70 stalls.
