Monorail service to stop early, start late

KUALA LUMPUR: RapidKL Monorail services will stop at 11pm, an hour earlier than usual, tomorrow, and start at 7am, an hour later than usual, on Saturday morning.

This is to accommodate works for the full migration of a new signalling system, which requires an eight-hour closure of services.

For the convenience of commuters, bus shuttle services will be provided at a token fee of RM1 per trip for the one hour tomorrow night and Saturday morning.

Six buses will be deployed on three routes, which are KL Sentral-Titiwangsa direct; KL Sentral-Bukit Bintang; and Bukit Bintang-Titiwangsa.

RapidKL Monorail Line operator, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, said the new signalling system was required to run the new four-car trains.

"We will inform the public through notices at the stations and through social and mainstream media.

"The operation tomorrow is a follow-up to the successful 52-hour non-stop trial operation we conducted in April.

"We have been given the go-ahead by our independent engineers to proceed with full migration.

"Hence, come 7am on Saturday, the RapidKL Monorail Line will be operating on its new signaling system that will accommodate a mixed fleet operation of two-car and four-car trains; the latter will come into service in the third quarter of the year," said RapidKL Monorail chief operating officer Abdul Hadi Amran.

The new signalling system is part of a large-scale upgrade of the monorail system. The upgrade also includes the introduction of 12 new four-car trains to replace the current fleet of two-car trains, the expansion and upgrading of all 11 stations to accommodate the four-car trains, and the construction of a depot in Brickfields.

The four-car trains will be introduced in batches, with the first two scheduled to commence operations in September.
