Expand overseas, PM tells businesses

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has called on Malaysians to prove to the world that they are capable entrepreneurs.

He said this after the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) had given a RM13 million grant to help local businesses expand overseas.

“Matrade has given RM13 million out of the RM20 million from the Market Development Grant (MDG) to almost 1,000 entrepreneurs to expand their businesses overseas.

“Make use of our grants to expand your businesses overseas,” he said in his latest Facebook and Twitter postings yesterday.

Najib also provided a link to a Bernama news report on Matrade’s grants.

Yesterday, MDG senior manager Mohamad Noor Azhad said the number of recipients comprising Bumiputera entrepreneurs increased to 19 per cent this year, from 18 per cent last year under the grant given by the government.

Last year, he said, the government allocated RM46.7 million under the MDG where 3,000 entrepreneurs benefited. Bernama
